Risk & safety
How much money do I need to start trading memecoins?
Enough to make twenty to fifty trades at a size you would not care about losing, plus a small SOL buffer for fees. That is the real constraint: one trade teaches nothing, and a sample of thirty is where results start meaning something. On Solana, where a position can be 10 dollars and a fee is a fraction of a cent, that is a much smaller number than most people expect.
Work it out from trade count
Pick a per-trade size you would shrug at losing in full. Multiply by thirty. That is your starting balance. If the answer is uncomfortable, the per-trade size was too big, not the trade count too high - thirty trades is the minimum sample before a win rate means anything at all.
The fee buffer
Keep a small amount of SOL permanently untouched. Fees are paid in SOL, and a wallet fully deployed into tokens cannot sell them, because the sell itself needs a fee. This is a genuinely common and entirely avoidable way to be stuck.
Is a small amount too little?
For learning, no - small is the correct size, and 50 dollars across thirty trades teaches more than 5,000 dollars across two. For meaningful income, also no, because the answer is not a starting balance: an account that survives is one where size grew slowly behind evidence. Starting larger mostly buys a faster route to the same lesson.
